Tomorrow, May 3, join Headwaters Master Naturalists and BCRV at the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum at JMU for a bat walk, and if all goes right, the release of one of our overwintered bats! It's a lovely spot for an evening walk to watch the bats fly and listen to their calls on the detectors. Meet at the Arboretum at 7:45. Parking is limited so please park in the overflow lot on the costco side. #explorethenight #batsarentscary #batrescue #batsofvirginia ... See MoreSee Less

Spring has decided to stick around, so we've been releasing bats like crazy. The lovely finders of this silver hair bat were happy to host his return and release. He gave us just enough time to snap a few pics, and then he was off! We did get to watch him zip through the trees and watched a silver hair forage over the property. We hope it was h#batrescuee#wildliferehabr#rescuetoreleasel#batsofvirginiag#silverhairedbatedbat ... See MoreSee Less

It's Earth Day! We can all take action for Earth Day to help protect our wild neighbors. Here are some simple things we can all do--Turn out unnecessary lights at night (sure some bats hunt at lights, but MOST don't).Plant natives, even if it's just a potted plant on a balcony.Reduce pesticide use--treating entire yards for ticks and mosquitoes kills all bugs!Leave grubs alone! Grubs are baby beetles, many of which grow up to be food for wildlife (and are cute and cool in their own right). And please, please, please use recycled products, thrift, reuse, etc. Every little bit h#EarthDayn#protectbathabitato#reducereuserecycleu#grubsaregoode#thriftnotnewd #thriftnotnew ...
